Capture and Replicate: Photographing Things

Capture and Replicate: Photographing Things

12.00

Instructing artist: Michael Curtis Asbill

OCTOBER 24th, 7:30pm - 9:30pm

All [people] are biologically equipped to experience space, as well as color, and can acquire certain experience which will tend to develop this capacity. Through the experimental approach toward handling tools and materials, we are able to increase and refine our native ability to react to and to control the physical environment in which we live. - László Moholy-Nagy

This workshop encourages experimentation and play when creating photographs. Either choosing to start from a smartphone camera or a scanner we will create an image. After the creation of the original photograph, we will then use the unused equipment to replicate that image. Whether choosing to begin by capturing and then replicating space or by creating and then recreating space this exercise pushes our ability to use these digital photographic tools and encourages a creative approach to photography and our tools.

Materials needed: A camera (even your iphone can work!), a sketchbook or notebook for taking notes and creative thought processing.
